Turtle
Rehabilitation Centre

Sunday May 20, 2007, -Dawn a Spotted Turtle was received
at The Rehab Centre. Found at Mer Blaue Bog in Navan, ON, by
Daniel Sabourn, adult female severely injured in a predator
attack, possibly by a Raccoon or Coyote. Her carapace (top
shell) had numerous gouges and punctures. - The most serious
injury was to the plastron. The breast section in front of
the bridge where the plastron meets the carapace, in the
middle of the turtles body was bitten off. The bitten pieces
was still there but wedged into the the body only attached
by tissue. The Turtle was in good spirit, moving all her
legs and neck. - Douglas St-Cyr and Susanne Reardon pulled
out the broken pieces from inside, a foul smelling fluid
emerged, they cleaned the wounds for another 45 min.- In the
pictures you will see a new technique done by Douglas
St-Cyr.

It took 2 hours to repair and 10 days of
antibiotics. Flamazine ointment/cream was used on the
wounds. - Eating well, although very fussy with food. - It
will take probably 2 years before she can be released.
